Fury: When you were a kid, did you picture yourself as a pro athlete?

GN: When I was a kid playing lacrosse, I did picture myself as a pro athlete, but it was in the NHL. When I was a younger lacrosse player the Pro Indoor Lacrosse League was just getting started and was not very well known. I played hockey in the winter and wanted to play in the NHL. It was not until I was 17 or 18 years old that I began to think I could play professional lacrosse. By then the National Lacrosse League (NLL) was much bigger and I was able to watch and follow the Toronto Rock.
Fury: So how does it feel to play in front of a huge crowd? Do you get nervous?

GN: Playing in front of big crowds is great. When you look into the stands and see 18,000 people holding signs, wearing jerseys and screaming loud, it gets you excited and focused to play hard. You tend to get nervous in warm-ups when you see all the fans pour into the building, but once the first whistle blows, the nerves settle, and you focus more on the job at hand.
Fury: Do you have a ritual that you like to do before the game?

GN: I like to get up early the day of a game and get a good breakfast before the morning shoot around. We usually all go to the same place for our pre-game meal and I always go for a nap after lunch. I hydrate as much as possible and go over game notes as well. |
